ABOUT THE PROJECT

Kailua Beads sells lei bead kits, charms, and jewelry supplies. Located on the island of Hawaii, this creative business is bursting with color but their website didn’t reflect the fun personality of the brand. With their target audience skewing toward younger girls and teenagers, I knew their new website needed to be a vibrant and immersive experience.

I utilized existing graphics and created new ones to help tell the brand’s story. Scroll-activated animations and motion bring the design to life. Bold shades of pink, purple and orange telegraph the bright and juicy color palette of the beads and charms sold on the site.

After discovering that over 90% of Kailua Beads’ website traffic was on mobile, I approached the design from a mobile-first perspective. This meant making mindful decisions about things like font sizes and image proportions, as well as page length and organization, to ensure mobile users had the same easy and intuitive experience as those browsing the site on desktop.

Knowing Kailua Beads’ products were often purchased as gifts, we added a custom gift wrapping upsell that could be added to the cart in a single click.
