ABOUT THE PROJECT

Carman Ranch is a third-generation, family-owned cattle ranch in Sisters, OR. They raise, butcher, and sell high quality grass-fed beef, pork, and chicken while promoting responsible ranching practices.

Because they believe in providing the freshest meat possible, Carman Ranch has a somewhat unusual fulfillment process for an ecommerce website: they have a local delivery and pickup model with almost no products on their site that could be shipped nationally. Clearly communicating their shipping and pick-up structure to customers was my top priority. A custom “How It Works” page breaks down the process and provides up-to-date pickup location information.

Communicating their somewhat complex shipping and pick-up policies in

Carman Ranch has incredible press. An “As Seen In” section on the homepage provides a few highlights while a custom Press page acts as an archive of the many websites, podcasts, and publications they have been featured in.

In addition to more clearly communicating the ranch’s shipping idiosyncrasies, it was also important to position Cory Carman as a respected advocate for moving toward a more sustainable and environmentally friendly ranching and meat industry. Carman Ranch’s purpose and philosophy were woven throughout many pages of the site, including the homepage.

So much of what Carman Ranch does is about education, whether that’s speaking about the importance of responsible land stewardship or sharing a recipe for how to prep and cook a strip steak. Their blog is the repository for all of this information and more, so a menu bar of “quick links” was added at the top to allow visitors to filter posts by category (in addition to providing an overview of topics covered).
